Larry D. Peters, age 66 of Wilson died unexpectedly on Wednesday July 1, 2015 in the Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane. Larry was born March 16, 1949 in Clearfield, PA, the son of Evelyn (Jordan) Peters of Youngstown and the late Bernard L. Peters. He attended Wilson High School and entered the U.S. Navy in December of 1967 and was discharged from active duty in December of 1968. He then served in the Naval Reserves until 1976 when he went on active duty and served for a total of 27 tears, retiring in 1992 with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal(2nd), Battle Efficiency "E" Ribbon (2nd), four Good Conduct Medals, the Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal , and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. Larry was a member of the Fillmore Chapel United Methodist Church in Ransomville, the O. Leo Curtiss American Legion Post # 830 in Ransomville, and served on the Patient Advisory Board at the V.A. Medical Center in Buffalo. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Crystal (Maacks) Peters whom he married on June 21, 1969; his mother, Evelyn; his children, Amy Peters of Butter, PA, Nathan Dean (Laura) Peters of Lancaster, NY, and Valerie (Demosthenes) Spiropoulos of Pico Rivera, CA; his grandchildren, Matthew and Meredith Weagle, Trennedy, Finnegan, and Aidan Peters-MacGregor, Zoe Spiropoulos, and Samuel Peters; two brothers, Terry (Donna) Peters of Phoenix, NY and Ronald Peters of Youngstown; seven sisters, Linda (James) Bodle of Cleveland, TN, Penny (Robert Sr.) Moore of Clayton, NY, Kathleen (Russell) Harris of Ransomville, Mona Carney of Niagara Falls, NY, Cheryl (Michael) Kulak of Lewiston, Patti (Phillip) Barger of Ransomville, and Tammy Chase of Youngstown; and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service, followed by Military Honors, will be held on Friday, July 2, at 11:00 am in the Fillmore Chapel United Methodist Church, 2523 Youngstown-Wilson Rd., Ransomville, with the Rev. Anne Cole officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to O.Leo Curtiss American Legion Post #830, PO Box 98, Ransomville, NY 14131 or to the Wilson Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 609, 250 Young St., Wilson, NY 14172-0609. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd. Ransomville, NY. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception at the Country Roadhouse Inn, 2989 Ridge Rd., Ransomville, NY following the service.
