Karen was born August 2, 1938 in Oak Park, Illinois, daughter of Grace Peterson and Irwin Meyer. Karen grew up in Oak Park, IL, attended Oak Park River Forest High School and Monmouth College, IL where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. A quiet competitor, Richard and Karen played Gin every morning and Karen usually won. She loved to laugh with a silent giggle and it was contagious! Richard was born October 12, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, a proudly proclaimed only child of Florence and Roderick Phoenix. Richard grew up in Yonkers, NY and then graduated from Rutgers University in June of 1963 with a PhD in Ceramic Engineering.
