Andrew “Red” F. Purgarich, of Niagara Falls, NY, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at McAuley Residence in the Town of Tonawanda. He was 94.

Born on January 8, 1932, in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Banas) Purgarich. On July 23, 1960, Andy married the former Audrey A. Armstrong in Niagara Falls, a loving union that lasted 53 years until her passing in 2013.

Andy worked as a Millwright for Great Lakes Carbon Corporation in Niagara Falls for 50 years, retiring in 1990. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, he was respected by colleagues and friends alike.

A man who embraced life fully, Andy enjoyed winter vacations in Florida, working on family racing cars, and watching all forms of stock car racing. He loved playing cards, cheering on the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, and spending time with his family, who were the center of his world.

For more than 50 years, Andy proudly served as an active and exempt member of the Niagara #1 Fire Company, where he formed lifelong friendships and contributed faithfully to his community.

Besides his parents and his beloved wife, Audrey, Andy was predeceased by his caring siblings, Robert “Bobby” (late Erma) Purgarich and Mildred (late William) Armstrong; and his brother‑in‑law, Ray McKenzie.

He is survived by his loving children, Ann Cronan, Andrea (Anthony) Grenzy, and Anthony (Tracy) Purgarich; and his “adoptive” daughter, Melinda (Mark) Schultz. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Derek (Laura), Kelli, Christopher, Cory, and Stephanie; and his adored great‑grandchildren, Gianna and Dominic. Andy is also survived by his dear sister, Rosie McKenzie, along with several nieces and nephews.
