Emily L. May

Emily L. May, 100, of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2026. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, on June 7, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Pawlowski) Dzialak.

A proud graduate of Trott High School, Emily went on to build a long and dedicated career as a Payroll Clerk with the New York State Power Authority. She took great pride in her work and loved sharing stories about the Comptometer, the first commercially successful key‑driven mechanical calculator, which she used daily in her role. Her fascination with its precision and mechanics remained a favorite topic throughout her life.

Emily married James A. May on May 31, 1947 in Niagara Falls, NY, with whom she shared a loving and devoted life until his passing in 1997. Together they raised their family with warmth, steadiness, and deep affection.

Emily found joy in crocheting and treasured time spent with her family, especially her great‑grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness. Her gentle nature, sharp memory, and warm spirit made her a beloved presence in the lives of all who knew her.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Emily was predeceased by her loving son, Thomas; and her dear siblings, Irene (Joseph), Helen (Stanley), and Leonard.

She is survived by her loving son, James (Deborah) May of Oberlin, Ohio; cherished grandchildren, Hillary (Scotty) Lewis, Rebecca May, Michelle (Brian) Howes, Nathanael May, and James May; and seven adored great‑grandchildren. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

There will be no prior visitation. Arrangements are entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 401 Ridge Street, Lewiston, New York. A private interment will take place in Riverdale Cemetery.
