Karen R. Sutherland

Karen R. Sutherland, of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2026. She was 65.

Born on October 31, 1960, in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Donald R. and Kathleen Ann (Broughton) Sutherland. Karen was a proud graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School, Class of 1979. She dedicated 30 years of service to the Lewiston-Porter Central School District as a custodian, retiring in 2019. Her work ethic, reliability, and quiet kindness were appreciated by colleagues and students alike.

In her retirement, Karen found joy in the simple comforts of home. She adored her cats and always made sure she had a pair so they could enjoy each other’s company. A lifelong dog lover, Karen was known for keeping a treat in her pocket for any pup she met along her way. She enjoyed gardening, needlepoint, and cross stitching, and in recent years could often be found relaxing with her computer games.

In addition to her parents, Karen was predeceased by her brother, Richard D. Sutherland.

She is survived by her dear sister, JoAnn (Rick) Bayne of Ransomville; and her close friend, Terry Sondek, who remained a steady presence in her life.

Arrangements are entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville. Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.

If desired, memorials may be made in Karen’s honor to the Niagara County SPCA, reflecting her lifelong love of animals.
