Michael E. “Mickey” Millis, 78, of Newfane, NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Sisters Hospital in Buffalo after a short illness.
Born on February 6, 1948, in Lockport, NY, Mickey was the son of the late Lester and Rosalee (Clarke) Millis. He grew up in Olcott Beach along the shores of Lake Ontario, where he spent countless days boating and fishing, pastimes that shaped his lifelong love of the outdoors. He attended Newfane Central School.
A proud United States Army veteran, Mickey served with the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he worked for Noury Chemical before spending most of his career in retail. He was employed by Herman’s World of Sporting Goods and Springbrook Golf, and later became the owner of the family business, Newfane Sportswear.
Mickey was an avid golfer, but his greatest passion was always his music. Taught to play guitar at a young age by his father, he grew into a gifted musician who wrote songs, sang, and played guitar in several local bands over the years. Most notably, he performed with Legend, who opened for Commander Cody at After Dark, and Nacho Mama, who opened for The Byrds at the Riviera Theatre. Mickey leaves behind cherished recordings that will continue to be enjoyed by his devoted “groupies” for years to come.
In addition to his parents, Mickey was predeceased by his infant son, Jared; his dear sisters, Rosalee "Florrie" Dragon and Cynthia "Cammie" Kubatek; his niece, Karen Ward; and nephews Christopher Rowland and David McKay.
He is survived by his loving wife, Heather (Campbell) Millis, whom he married on November 17, 1990, at the Wintergarden in Niagara Falls, NY; and by his dear nephews, Steven (Allie) Rowland and Devin Rowland, of whom he was immensely proud. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and many friends who will forever remember his talent, humor, and generous spirit.
Arrangements are entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville. Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. A Celebration of Life honoring this local “Legend” will be announced at a later date.
If desired, memorials may be made in Mickey’s honor to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
