Michele B. Shaw

Michele B. Shaw, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully at her home under the compassionate care of Niagara Hospice on Thursday, April 30, 2026. She was 80 years old.

Born on October 9, 1945 in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gerald and Doris (Tompkins) Berthot. Michele was a 1963 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Niagara University in 1973. On April 20, 1968, she married the love of her life, Michael H. Shaw, at Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls. Together they built their home and life in Lewiston.

Michele worked as a Microbiologist for Roswell Park Cancer Institute, dedicating her career to meaningful scientific work until her retirement in 2009. Outside of her profession, she was devoted to her family and found joy in the simple, rich moments of life. She loved reading, movies, and traveling with Michael, especially their trips to Canada, Lake George, and Fenway Park. An excellent cook with a warm sense of humor, Michele created a home filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable meals.

She enjoyed music throughout her life, from her early admiration of Rick Nelson of The Ozzie and Harriet Show to later years spent listening to the Eagles and attending concerts to hear live music. Above all, Michele was endlessly supportive of her family, a steady and loving presence whose encouragement and kindness will be deeply missed.

Michele is survived by her beloved husband, Michael; her loving sons, Jeffrey M. (Dian Arisna) Shaw and Matthew G. (Shelby) Shaw; her caring brother, Robert A. Berthot; and her dear uncle Kenneth (Charlotte) Tompkins and dear aunt Patricia Phillips. She is also survived by many cousins.

The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 3–7 PM at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 401 Ridge Street, Lewiston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 10 AM from St. Peter R.C. Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the church. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.

If desired, memorials may be made in Michele’s honor to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, or the SPCA Serving Niagara County.
