Nancy Anne Barlow, formerly of Ransomville, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025—just five days after celebrating her 88th birthday. Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Iola F. (née Foote) Barlow. Nancy moved to Ransomville at the age of three, where she cultivated a life rich in music, history, and community connection.
A passionate genealogist and local historian, Nancy was renowned for her extraordinary memory and love of research. She volunteered with the Ransomville Historical Society and, at age 83, created the cherished Facebook page *Ransomville History and Memories*, preserving the stories and spirit of her hometown.
Nancy’s musical gifts were a source of joy to many. She began playing piano and organ for the Ransomville Baptist Church at age 16 and continued to serve churches throughout Niagara County for decades. Her love of singing began in school, where she and her sister Cynthia performed as the “Rainbow Ranch Girls.” She later sang in church choirs and with groups including The Good Sound, The Mary Mitchell Singers, and The Lockport Chorale.
Nancy had a zest for life and a fondness for red, especially when it came to cars. She was proud of her first car, a 1955 Chevy Convertible, and her signature license plate, “NAN2,” became a familiar sight. She enjoyed art, bowling, and later in life, guiding others in alternative health and supplement use through certifications she earned.
Her professional life was as varied as her interests, with roles in insurance, banking, real estate, small business ownership, management, and service at the Lockport Visitor Center. Her historical insight and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Cynthia Barlow and Karen (Paul) Conrad. She is survived by her brother Doug Barlow; her children Christopher (Lori) LaFever, Chad (Darcie) LaFever, and Michele LaFever; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
