Getzville, Naomi A. Schumacker, age 83 formerly of Lewiston, died Saturday August 1, 2009 at the Weinberg Campus in Getzville, after a lengthy illness. Naomi was born November 5, 1925 in Phoenix, AZ, the daughter of the late Augustus "Gus" and Nellie Mae (Wolfe) Garbarino. On July 29, 1943 she married Lt. Col. Charles S. Schumacker, U.S. Army, retired. They resided in Youngstown from 1969 to 1991. Charles predeceased her on Feb. 25, 1991 and she moved to Lewiston and lived there until she became a resident of the Weinberg Campus. Naomi was a member of the Lewiston Senior Citizens where she was formerly the tour group coordinator. She was also a longtime active member of the Youngstown Lion's Club. She is survived by a son, Neil (Mary Ann) Schumacker of Land O' Lakes, FL; a brother, Walter Garbarino of Phoenix, AZ; three grandchildren, Michael (Angele) Schumacker of Port Colborne, Ontario, Jennifer Schumacker of Florida, and Eric (Susan) Schumacker of Niagara Falls, NY; three great grandchildren, Emily, Jacob, and Summer Schumacker; a daughter in law, Christel Schumacker of Thorold, Ontario, several nieces and nephews, and the long time companion of her predeceased son, Garry Houghton. She was predeceased by a son, Charles S. Schumacker, Jr., and nine brothers and sisters. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 4 - 8 pm. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 8, at 10:00 am in the funeral home with the Rev. Susan Keppy officiating. Private burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
