Raymond Wayne Komorowski, of Ransomville, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, under the compassionate care of Niagara Hospice at the Northgate Health Care Facility in North Tonawanda, NY, after a strong and courageous battle with cancer. He was 73.
Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Ray was the son of the late Roman J. and Jean (née Buterbaugh) Komorowski. He grew up in the close-knit community of Ransomville, where his early years were marked by service and camaraderie. A proud member of the local Boy Scouts and one of the original “Lantern Boys” at the Ransomville Fire Company in the 1960s, Ray assisted firemen with rolling hoses and other tasks—an early sign of his lifelong commitment to helping others.
Ray graduated from Wilson Central Schools in 1970, where he played on the Varsity Football team. After working at Harrison Radiator in Lockport, NY, he followed his dreams to Rockland Community College in Suffern, NY, and later embarked on adventures in Colorado, enjoying concerts at Red Rocks and embracing the spirit of the Rocky Mountains.
Ray’s passion for service flourished in Waterbury, CT, where he made a lasting impact on the community. From 2000 to 2014, he was a dedicated member of the Waterbury Kiwanis Club, serving as President in 2009 and chairing the Camp Committee for underprivileged children. He also served on the board of the Greater Waterbury FAIFA (National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors) from 1994 to 2014, including a term as President in 2007. Ray chaired the Waterbury “Relay for Life,” supported the National Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association, and was a founding member of Seven Angels Theater, a nonprofit Actor’s Equity theater.
Ray’s heart was most at home outdoors, especially when fixing up summer camps for handicapped and inner-city children. He found joy in one-on-one moments—repairing fishing poles, tuning up bikes, and sharing his love of nature. Later in life, Ray returned to Ransomville to be near family and care for his mother, continuing his legacy of compassion and devotion.
Ray generously donated his remains to science, a final act of giving that reflected his lifelong values.
He is survived by his loving sisters, Karen (George) Bell of Lockport and Christine (Randy) Goodman of Ransomville; as well as several dear aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ray will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 1 PM at the Wilson First Baptist Church, 265 Pettit Street, Wilson, NY. Friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s honor to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
