Rev. Ronald A. Haefer, M. Div., of Wilson, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and under the compassionate care of Niagara Hospice. He was 82.
Born on May 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Orville and Norma (nee Schmidt) Haefer. Rev. Ron was a graduate of Capital University in Columbus, OH, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree, and went on to complete his graduate studies at the Evangelical Theological Lutheran Seminary, also in Columbus. He was ordained into the ministry on June 22, 1969.
Rev. Haefer devoted his life to faith, service, and community. He served as Pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Medina, NY from 1969–1984, and was most recently serving as Part-time Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilson, NY. His ministry extended far beyond the pulpit. Deeply committed to helping others, he served as Director of First Offender Counseling in Eastern Niagara County; Administrator of Lord of Life Adult and Child Services in Depew, NY for 12 years; Counselor with the Buffalo Pastoral Counseling Group; Director of Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Niagara County; and Consultant for Medina Memorial Hospital. Wherever he was called, Pastor Ron offered compassion, guidance, and unwavering support.
On September 14, 2002, Pastor Ron married Susan M. (nee Dzierzewski) at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilson, a union rooted in faith, partnership, and love.
Pastor Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Susan; his children, Michael, Natalie, and Rachel; and his step-children, Scott, Shelli, and Dale. He was the cherished grandfather of Winston, Hayden, Sam, Teddy, Kadie, Ashlie, Zachary, Harper, London, and Madison; and the adored great-grandfather of Theo, Evelyn, and Lucas. He is also survived by his sister, Judy; nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and parishioners, both present and past, whose lives were touched by his kindness and leadership.
Arrangements entrusted to the HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 220 Young Street, Wilson, NY at 10 AM. Friends invited.
