Richard James Bateman, of Wilson, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family and the compassionate care team from Niagara Hospice. He was 79.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Richard was the son of the late Thomas J. Sr. and Annie M. (nee Anderson) Bateman. A proud graduate of the Class of 1964, Richard answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy in 1965. He served honorably through 1973, including active duty in Vietnam, embodying the values of courage, commitment, and service.

On October 9, 1976, Richard married Pamela J. Rozeboom in Holland, MI, beginning a loving partnership that spanned nearly five decades. Together, they built a life rooted in family, faith, and quiet strength.

Richard shared his passion for electronics as a dedicated teacher at Bryant & Stratton, where he retired in 2013. He was known for his patience, wit, and ability to inspire curiosity in his students. Outside the classroom, Richard found joy in reading, tackling crossword puzzles, and riding his motorcycle, simple pleasures that reflected his thoughtful and adventurous spirit.He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Melissa Bateman, and his brother, Thomas J. Bateman, Jr., whose memories he carried with deep affection.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Pamela; his children, Carol (Anthony) Ross, Carrie (Adam) Dozier, and Scott (Lindsay) Bateman; and his cherished grandchildren: Dylan, Destiny, Charlize, Daniel, Noah, Gabrielle, Aiden, and Cheyenne. He is also survived by his dear sister-in-law, Lois Bateman and adored nieces, Cheryl (Carl) Hill and Renee (Kyle Emert) Bateman.

There will be no prior visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., Ransomville. A funeral service to honor Richard’s life will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 220 Young Street, Wilson, NY. Family and friends are kindly asked to assemble at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s honor to Buffalo/Niagara Honor Flight, PO BOX 426, Clarence, NY 14031, in recognition of his proud military service.
