Sonia E. Fekete

Sonia E. Fekete, 82, of Ransomville, NY, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Facility, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY, on November 26, 1942, Sonia was the daughter of the late Charles Harold and Mary E. (née Paschke) Shampine. A proud graduate of LaSalle High School, Class of 1960, she went on to earn her nursing degree from the Deaconess School of Nursing in 1962. Her calling to care for others led to a dedicated 37-year career at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital, where she served with compassion and professionalism until her retirement in 2008.

On June 20, 1970, Sonia married the love of her life, William F. Fekete, at Grace Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. Together, they built a life rooted in love, family, and shared adventures. In retirement, Sonia found joy in traveling, especially to the Pacific Northwest and Canada, tending her garden, cooking for those she loved, and attending live music concerts that lifted her spirit.

Sonia will be remembered for her warmth, her gentle strength, and the grace with which she lived her life. She was a devoted wife, a nurturing mother, a dedicated nurse, and a proud grandmother whose presence brought comfort and joy to all who knew her.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Bill; her loving children, Bill (Pamela) Fekete, Mary (Charles) Herrmann, and Liz Fekete; and her cherished grandchildren, Chelsea, Courtney, Quentin, Corey, Sam, and Nathaniel. She is also survived by her dear sister, Jane (Russell) Hughes; her caring brother-in-law, James Fekete; and several nephews who will miss her dearly.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville.
