Will P. Maggs, of Youngstown, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Buffalo General Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. He was 82.
Born in Niagara Falls, NY, Will was the son of George W. and Maud A. (Shuman) Maggs. A proud graduate of Niagara Falls High School, Class of 1960, he pursued his passion for education at Buffalo State College, earning his Bachelor’s degree in 1964 and his Master’s in 1965.
Will dedicated four decades to the Lewiston-Porter School District, where he inspired generations of students as a devoted mathematics teacher. His calm presence, sharp intellect, and unwavering patience left a lasting impression on colleagues and students alike.
On July 11, 1981, Will married Judith L. Allen at St. James United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls, beginning a partnership rooted in faith, curiosity, and joy. In retirement, Will and Judy embraced their role as local explorers, delving into the rich history of Buffalo and its surrounding communities. Their shared love of learning and community was evident in their active participation in church life and their deep commitment to family.
Will found his greatest joy in time spent with his grandchildren, whose laughter and energy brought light to his days. He was a regular fixture at their soccer games, cheering from the sidelines with quiet pride and a warm smile. He was a gentle soul, a thoughtful listener, and a man of quiet strength and enduring kindness.
He is predeceased by his parents and his caring siblings: Russell (late Kay), Richard (late Dorothy), Aleith “Lee” (late Stephen) Travers, and Gerald (late Joyce); his sister-in-law, Diane Maggs; and brother-in-law, James Doyle.
Will is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his loving daughters, Jennifer, Rachel Maggs, and Sarah (Chris) Sullivan; and his cherished grandchildren, Noah, Levi, Asher, and Maia. He is also survived by his dear siblings, Philip Maggs and Virginia Doyle, along with many nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.
